Augmented Reality Adventure by INDE Opens at Children’s Edutainment Centre KidZania in Jeddah

Published: August 4, 2017

KidZania Jeddah, where children can discover, explore and learn about the adult world through various playful activities in a kid-sized city, has launched its latest interactive attraction – an award-winning Augmented Reality experience developed by INDE.

The BroadcastAR experience features 3D wild animals that viewers instantly find themselves right next to, as they step in front of the AR screen. Kids are immersed in breathtaking scenes as they interact with photo-realistic natural world content. They can tease a leopard, get splashed by a whale and are approached by life-size dinosaurs from the Jurassic. The best moments of the AR experience are automatically captured by the system, so they can be shared on social media.

One of the main characteristics of this Augmented Reality encounter is what KidZania also considers a key element of its concept: the ability to entertain children within an educational context. The educational potential of fun is an essential building block of INDE’s AR-based products and experiences.

Alex Poulson, INDE’s CEO said: “What we are building using AR is a new way to educate people about history, about the natural world, and about everything they ever dreamt of experiencing but never could. Augmented Reality is not a technology; it’s a teleportation machine. It’s bringing back the extinct and then learning about out why they’re gone. It’s touching wild animals and learning about the fragile environment and our impact on it. It’s about recreating situations and environments that train, educate, inform and entertain by experiencing them first-hand.”
