“The Incredible Quiz” with Alexander Hamilton
HeroMirror Augmented Reality Experience for Madame Tussauds
Overview
This kiosk-sized installation at Madame Tussauds, featuring the first US treasury secretary, Alexander Hamilton, is an interactive AR experience that is truly nothing short of “incredible.” Custom-developed here at INDE, “The Incredible Quiz” not only offers a one-of-a-kind photo opportunity with the historical heavyweight, but also includes a gamified interaction.
This permanent INDE HeroMirror installation can be found next to famous traditional wax figures of the other Founding Fathers at Madame Tussauds in Washington.
The challenge
The success of an AR experience relies heavily on interactivity, making an easy-to-use interface essential. Common solutions typically rely on extraneous hardware such as Kinect or Real Sense, adding unnecessary expenses.
The INDE team conceived and developed real-time gesture control that hinges on deep learning, using nothing more than a conventional camera with no depth-sensing ability.

User
Experience
The experience is motion sensor-activated, prompting the lifelike three-dimensional likeness of Alexander Hamilton to quiz the user, testing their historical knowledge with multiple-choice questions in classic “game show” style.
Since the experience is powered by gesture control, users can select an answer simply by lifting a left or right arm.
At the culmination of the experience, Alexander Hamilton provides the user with their final score, and a prize! Users are prompted to take a digital picture with the legendary statesman, which can be printed or shared via email.
