Union Station Adds Cutting-Edge Augmented Reality to its Blockbuster Dinosaur Exhibition
Kansas City’s Union Station, a fully-restored, 1914 landmark is home to a science center, a planetarium, a theater and other attractions – and now to some fascinating, life-sized AR dinosaurs, too.
INDE’s “Back to the Jurassic” large-screen AR experience has been added to "Dinosaurs Revealed: Journey Across America" – an exhibition that has been shattering attendance records since its launch at Union Station – in order to mix the latest technology with a powerful prehistoric perspective, and deliver content in yet another compelling way.
Visitors’ reactions to the Augmented Reality installation have again proved that people’s passion for dinosaurs is not extinct, and have also shown why immersive, next-generation technologies are becoming increasingly popular among museums and science centers.
As visitors step in front of the AR screen, the teleportation is instantly complete. After a “friendly” pack of raptors curiously approach viewers, a furious T-Rex appears right next to them, making it clear that playtime is over. A giant diplodocus then performs a close inspection of people standing right in front of it, before it slowly walks away, trying not to step on anyone. Once the adventure is over – and in case they survive the encounter with the extinct behemoths –, people can view and share the amazing snapshots taken during their AR encounter via a dedicated microsite thanks to INDE’s SnapShare solution, integrated in the AR system.
As an increasing number of institutions and companies in education and entertainment are looking at innovative ways to provide unforgettable experiences to their audiences, AR has become one of the most sought-after technologies today, due to its ability to engage, educate and entertain in an entirely new way.
UK Augmented Reality company INDE has already put life-sized digital dinosaurs, whales and jaguars into more than 200 museums, zoos, theme parks and shopping centres worldwide.
