INDE's AR makes waiting for your baggage fun

Waiting for your luggage at an airport baggage carousel is usually a hassle, but not at the Whitsunday Coast Airport in Proserpine, Queensland, where passengers can now discover the wildlife of Australia, thanks to INDE's award-winning large-screen Augmented Reality system.

The custom-made BroadcastAR installation allows passengers to interact with some commonly-seen creatures from the east coast of Australia such as dugongs, humpback whales or koalas. Once they step in front of the AR screen they are instantly surrounded by realistic, life-sized animals, that they can then take away (digitally!).

UK Augmented Reality company INDE has already put life-sized digital dinosaurs, whales and jaguars into more than 200 museums, zoos, theme parks and shopping centres worldwide, although this is the first time it has deployed an Augmented Reality system to improve the customer experience at an airport.

Alex Alanson, INDE’s COO commented that “As with most major projects this has been both challenging and rewarding, from conception, content and hardware development to deployment during the airport reconstruction. Both INDE and the Whitsunday Regional Authority are delighted with the outcome, which solves one of life’s ongoing problems - how to make waiting for your baggage not only fun but something you’d like to share on social media!”
